Contrary to the topics, not always
it is raining in Cantabria but truly it is just enough to get
that so beautiful green environment .
The warm summers and soft winters allow we to enjoy the beaches
as well to have a walk, a bath as to sunbathe, amongst some
activities else. All our beaches have clear water and fine golden
sand. They are fully provided with all the necessary services,
lifesaving and bay watch, showers, adequate parking, daily beach
cleaning, …
The Trasmiera Ecopark is a leading
initiative in Spain, because it is an alternative for a sustainable
development of a region which is based on the natural and cultural
resources of that area. One of the main challenge of that Ecopark
concept is the Environmental Regeneration of the salt marsh
region known as the ¨Marisma Joyel¨, for what the Environment
Ministry will invest 2.1 million Euros, one of its main intervention.
The ¨Marisma Joyel¨ is placed within a Natural Reserve
and, furthermore, it is absolutely internationally appreciated
because its inclusion into the Special Protection Areas for
wild birds (Z.E.P.A.) from the UE RAMSAR Convention about the
wetlands. Every winter thousands of migratory birds of over
one hundred species can be observed, like anatide, limicole
or marine birds and not so usual species like purple heron or
roseate spoonbill, one of the most relevant of that Reserve.
The “Marisma Joyel¨ is situated at the foot of the
Cincho Mount. The Molino de Santa Olaja is placed there, it
is the first working tide mill on the Cantabria Coast.
